Letter to Yr 2,3,4&5 parents from the Headteacher

Re: Wider Opening of School

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your families are well.  I am writing to update you in regards to wider opening from Monday 6th July – Tuesday 21st July.

As you will know, the government announcement on 10th May encouraged schools to safely re-open with the emphasis on returning years Reception, 1 ,6 and Nursery. This return was based upon many variables (site constraints, classroom sizes, demand for places, staffing, etc.) including ensuring that schools had the ability to adhere to the stricter infection control measures to try to make our school as Covid-19 safe as possible.

Guidance from the government (combined with the demand for places) means that we do not have the capacity to open any more bubbles before the term ends. I know that many parents and carers will be extremely disappointed at this outcome but will also appreciate the practical restrictions and constraints of the school facilities and will continue to want decisions in regards to pupils’ return to be safety led. I have discussed our circumstances and this decision with Haringey Local authority and our Governing Body.

No one expects parents to act as teachers, or to provide the activities and feedback that a school would.  However, we have had some very positive feedback about the new home learning portal ‘Purple Mash’.  Our pupils have been thoroughly enjoying the tasks set for them by their teachers.  Although this cannot replace being with a teacher in school, we would like to encourage our families to continue to support their children with their home learning using: Purple Mash, Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Oak National Academy.

Following the government guidance published yesterday, the school will be open from September 7th for all pupils. I will be sending out a more detailed letter in regards to the measures that will remain in place and who your child’s class teacher will be.

I would like to thank all of our families for their continued support throughout this pandemic. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at: admin@leavalley.haringey.sch.uk

Yours faithfully,

Mrs M Kokotsis
